Today's post is the first of three in a series on writer/editor August Derleth. His friends called him Augie, so let's go ahead and get Augie Doggie and Doggie Daddy out of the way.
August Derleth's editorial work has involved cartoons of a much darker nature, especially in three aspooky-story collections Derleth edited in the 1940s. All three were illustrated by Lee Brown Coye. I was able to borrow two out of three from the library. Here are some scans of covers bookplates, checkout cards, title pages, tables of contents, etc.
This is the third collection, which I'll need to hunt up somewhere as the library system couldn't find me a copy.
Derleth not only edited story story collections, but wrote many stories of his own. Here's a good one, in audio form, I found on YouTube.
Next week: Stuff about August Derleth himself, and his prolific writing.
