A couple of months ago, I posted about finding a book at the library, a volume I'd encountered at a used bookstore a long time ago and then regretted not buying. The book was a compilation called American Vignettes and HERE'S THE POST. I found out a little about the author, John I. White, who was not only a historian but at once time a singing cowboy on the radio.
The internet told me that White had written a book, Git Along Little Dogies, about the history of the singing cowboy.
When I borrowed the book through the statewide network of libraries here, it turned out there was a flexible record tucked into a pocket on the inner back cover.
I happen to have a USB turntable so I put the flexible record on top of an LP that was already in place, and I made a five-minute video of the two cowboy songs White recorded for this project. Here it is.
