Taking a break from my series of posts about Greta Garbo's films as I have a lot going on at the moment. Essays which take a deep dive into classic film just don't fit into my life at the moment.
Last week I posted links connected to two stories found in the 1949 collection (reprinted as a Dell paperback in 1963) Alfred Hitchcock's Baker's Dozen of Suspesne Stories. This week I'm featuring two more tales from the collection.
Samuel Bias is by far the lesser name in writing between the two authors featured this week, but it's his story "Revenge" which was adapted for the first-ever episode of "Alfred Hitchcock Presents
In the same way that "Twilight Zone" was brought back to television in the 1980s, there was an 80s version of "Alfred Hitchcock Presents," and the "Revenge" episode was redone.
John Sreinbeck's name will be much more familar to you than that of Samuel Bias. Steinbeck's story "The Snake:" is included in the Baker's Dozen anthology. Here's audio of the author reading his story.
The website "Steinbeck now" posted a December 2014 article about "The Snake," looking at the story from a psychological angle. There was a 2015 follow-up article looking into the background of the writing of the tale.
Next week: I'm not toally sure yet
