Visited St. Louis this weekend. It's always good to see sights and sounds of this city I love. When I arrived in Florida 3 years ago, I hadn't considered length of stay or anything else because, at that time, I needed to be there. Everything else was made to fit that reality. It's been work. Added to that, the three years since have proved to be tumultuous for everyone I know. Working with children, I've become aware that many have to learn good techniques for self-soothing. For myself, I find that regular spells outdoors in a deep green quiet location are necessary for a fully functioning central nervous system. I cannot deny either how pleasant it is to float atop the gulf ocean waves, and walk barefoot on warm sand, but cool and green and dark is my preferred self soothing environment. Our connections to the natural world are especially rejuvenating in these uncertain times. Most of us are doing the best we can. Finding what helps is key, then making time for it. Art museum visits, cafe dining, dog walks, sitting in a rocker, watering plants,, creating art, music playing. Taking our time with the primary things in life, the things our work and concern should serve, and which all too often fall secondary. I'm as prone as anyone to getting caught in a work/exhaustion mode, but my body let's me know when to seek a good escape and how to benefit from it, my peace of mind restored. With our best intentions and shored up by mother nature, maybe we can keep things in this world from sinking to as low a depth as they might.
In my case, I am very much heartened by seeing creatures live in water. Fish, turtles, frogs, birds. I captured some nice duck action in Lafaytte Park This weekend. You may want to listen to these without sound. There was some kind of party going on, which is try usually the case.
Carry on you waddlemasters, you smiling bills, you fair feathered friends. And please do your best to carry on, no matter how daunting the situation. Find your simple pleasures where you will and take care.
Simple minnow and fish action below.
Hoping this week you will spend time with loved ones; have a good week.
